Formula & Compatibility

Bondo bumper and flexible part repair uses a specialized two-part epoxy chemistry that maintains flexibility throughout its lifespan. Unlike rigid body fillers that crack when flexed, our formula contains elastomeric additives that allow the cured repair to bend and compress along with the surrounding plastic.

This repair adhesive bonds to the most common automotive flexible plastics, including polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic olefin (TPO), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and urethane-based materials. You’ll find these plastics in bumper covers, lower fascias, side skirts, spoilers, mirror housings, and fender flares across virtually all vehicle makes and models.

Application Process

Surface Preparation

Clean the repair area thoroughly with soap and water, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol or automotive wax and grease remover. Sand both sides of the crack or break with 80-grit sandpaper, extending at least one inch beyond the damaged area on all sides.

Mixing & Application

Dispense equal parts of both components onto a clean mixing board. Blend thoroughly for 60 seconds until you achieve a uniform gray color with no streaks. Apply the mixed adhesive to both sides of the repair using a plastic spreader, building up material beyond the surface level.

Styling

Sanding & Finishing

Once fully cured, the repair surface sands just like original plastic. Start with 80-grit sandpaper to level high spots and shape the repair flush with surrounding material. Progress through 120-grit, then 180-grit for smooth blending.

For areas that will be painted, finish with 220-grit to create ideal paint adhesion. The cured adhesive accepts automotive primers, base coats, and clear coats without special preparation. Apply flexible bumper primer before color coats for maximum durability on high-flex areas.

Much better than rigid filler
I tried regular body filler on my flexible side skirt and it kept cracking. Switched to this flexible formula and the problem went away completely. It stays bonded even when I accidentally bump the part.

Strong hold on polypropylene bumpers
Repaired a break on my truck's front fascia and it's held solid through two winters. The bond is incredibly strong. I wish the tubes were slightly larger for bigger repairs, but the quality is excellent.

Common Questions About Bondo Bumper and Flexible Part Repair

Our flexible repair formula bonds to most automotive plastics including polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic olefin (TPO), ABS, and urethane-based bumper covers. It works on the vast majority of modern bumpers, fascias, spoilers, and trim pieces.

The adhesive does not bond well to untreated polyethylene, silicone, or EPDM rubber. For polypropylene and TPO parts, light sanding before application significantly improves adhesion. If you're unsure of your part's material, test in a small inconspicuous area first.

Bondo bumper and flexible part repair reaches handling strength in approximately 30 minutes at 70°F. You can begin sanding after this initial cure period for basic shaping.

For full structural strength and paint readiness, allow 24 hours of cure time. Temperature affects cure speed—warmer conditions accelerate curing while cold temperatures slow it down. Don't apply paint or expose the repair to stress loads until the full 24-hour cure window has passed.

Yes, the two-part epoxy works well on through-cracks when applied to both sides of the break. For best results, clean and sand both the exterior and interior surfaces before application.

Apply the mixed adhesive to both sides of the crack, pressing the surfaces together to ensure complete contact. For very large through-breaks or structural damage, consider reinforcing the backside with fiberglass mesh before applying the flexible adhesive for added strength.

The cured repair accepts standard automotive primers and paints without special preparation. For areas subject to significant flexing like bumper covers, we recommend using flexible bumper primer before applying color coats.

Flexible primers and paints contain elastomeric additives that bend with the plastic, preventing paint cracking over time. Many automotive paint suppliers carry these products specifically labeled for bumper and plastic part refinishing. Sand to 220-grit before priming for optimal paint adhesion.

You have approximately 10 minutes of working time at 70°F after thoroughly mixing the two components. This gives you enough time to apply the adhesive and position the parts properly.

Higher temperatures reduce working time while cooler temperatures extend it slightly. Mix only the amount you can apply within this window, as the adhesive cannot be saved once mixed. If you're working on a large repair, consider doing it in sections rather than mixing a large batch that might cure before you finish applying it.

Proper mixing produces a uniform gray color with no streaks, swirls, or unmixed pockets of resin or hardener. Blend the equal parts of both components for a full 60 seconds, scraping the edges and bottom of your mixing area.

If you see any white or darker streaks in the mixture, continue blending until completely homogeneous. Incomplete mixing results in soft spots that won't cure properly or take much longer to harden. The color-coded tubes make it easy to dispense equal amounts—just match the bead lengths.

While formulated specifically for automotive flexible plastics, this adhesive works on any flexible plastic part that requires a strong, flexible bond. Many customers use it for ATV fenders, motorcycle fairings, marine applications, and even household plastic repairs.

The key is matching the material compatibility—if the part is made of polypropylene, TPO, ABS, or urethane plastic and requires flexibility, this product will likely work well. Always test in a small area first on non-automotive applications to verify adhesion and flex characteristics.
