Formula & Application Properties

Bondo for concrete uses a proprietary polymer-modified cement base that delivers superior adhesion compared to standard cement-only patching compounds. The molecular structure creates a mechanical and chemical bond with existing concrete, ensuring repairs stay locked in place through decades of foot traffic, weather exposure, and thermal expansion.

Our formula flows easily into cracks and voids without the air pockets that cause traditional patches to fail. The consistency is thick enough to stay in place on vertical surfaces yet workable enough to smooth with a trowel or putty knife. Within 30 minutes, the compound reaches handling strength, and full structural cure completes in 2-4 hours depending on temperature and humidity.

Surface Preparation & Compatibility

Preparing Damaged Areas

Successful concrete repair begins with proper surface preparation. Remove all loose material, dirt, oil, and previous failing patches using a wire brush, grinder, or pressure washer. The repair area should be clean, structurally sound, and slightly damp — not wet or bone-dry. For deep cracks wider than 1/2 inch, we recommend undercutting the edges slightly to create a mechanical lock.

Compatible Substrates

Bondo for concrete bonds to standard portland cement concrete, brick, concrete block, stucco, and most masonry materials. It adheres to both new and aged surfaces, though aged concrete often provides superior bond strength due to open pore structure. The formula is not recommended for asphalt, wood, or flexible substrates that experience significant movement.

Coverage & Project Planning

A single 1-quart container of Bondo for concrete covers approximately 8 square feet at 1/8-inch depth, or 4 square feet at 1/4-inch depth. For typical driveway cracks measuring 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and 20 feet long, one quart handles 2-3 linear feet depending on crack depth. Deep repairs may require building up material in multiple layers, with each layer allowed to firm up before adding the next.

Calculate your material needs by measuring the total volume of voids to be filled. For irregular damage, multiply length × width × average depth to estimate cubic inches, then divide by 28 (the approximate cubic inches per quart). Always purchase 10-15% more than calculated to account for material loss during mixing and application.

Fixed my crumbling driveway edge perfectly
I’ve tried three other concrete patching products over the years and they all failed within months. Bondo for concrete has held up for two full winters now without a single crack. The bond is so strong I can’t even tell where the repair ends and original concrete begins after painting.

Way easier to work with than regular cement
As a DIYer, I appreciated how smoothly this went on compared to the gritty cement mixes I’ve used before. It stayed exactly where I put it on my vertical step repair and didn’t slump or sag. Cured fast enough that I could walk on it the same afternoon.

Professional results without hiring a contractor
I have several deep cracks in my 30-year-old garage floor that were getting worse every year. This Bondo concrete filler filled them completely and sanded smooth. After sealing the whole floor, you literally cannot see where the repairs are. Saved me thousands in professional resurfacing.

Holds up to daily delivery truck traffic
We used this on our commercial loading dock where a forklift had chipped out a section. Six months later with constant heavy traffic, the repair still looks brand new. No chipping, no cracking, no delamination. This stuff is seriously tough.

Great product once you get the mixing right
First batch I made was a little too wet and took longer to cure. Second batch I followed the instructions exactly and it was perfect — smooth consistency, easy to trowel, and rock-hard in under an hour. Definitely read the directions carefully for best results.

Finally a concrete patch that actually lasts
I’m a property manager and have tried every concrete repair product at the hardware store. This is the only one that hasn’t required re-patching after one winter. The polymer formula makes a huge difference in durability. Now I only stock Bondo for all our concrete repairs.

Good to know

Common Questions About Bondo Concrete Repair Products

Yes, our Advanced Concrete Repair formula is engineered for both horizontal and vertical applications. The compound’s consistency prevents sagging and slumping on vertical surfaces when applied at recommended thickness (up to 1/2 inch per layer).

For deeper vertical repairs, build up material in multiple layers, allowing each layer to firm up for 15-20 minutes before adding the next. The compound achieves excellent bond strength on step risers, foundation walls, and other vertical concrete surfaces when the substrate is properly prepared and slightly damp.

Light foot traffic is safe after 2 hours. Vehicle traffic should wait a minimum of 4 hours at temperatures above 60°F, or 6-8 hours in cooler conditions below 50°F.

For maximum durability, we recommend waiting 24 hours before subjecting repairs to heavy loads or turning wheels. This allows the polymer matrix to reach full strength and ensures the repair can handle the concentrated stress from vehicle weight. Repairs less than 1/4 inch deep may cure faster, while deeper patches benefit from the full 24-hour cure period.

We recommend maximum application depth of 1/2 inch per layer. Deeper voids should be filled in multiple layers, with each layer allowed to firm up before adding the next.

For very deep holes or missing chunks, fill the bottom half with clean gravel or broken concrete pieces, then top with Bondo for concrete to reduce material usage and prevent thick sections that may cure unevenly. Each layer bonds chemically to the previous one, creating a monolithic repair even when built up over several applications.

Bondo for concrete cures to a light gray color similar to fresh portland cement concrete. Exact color matching with aged, stained, or tinted concrete requires applying a concrete stain or paint after the repair cures.

The cured compound accepts concrete stains identically to natural concrete, allowing you to blend repairs seamlessly with surrounding areas. For best results, seal or stain the entire surface rather than just the repair area, which ensures uniform appearance and eliminates visible patch lines.

While Bondo Advanced Concrete Repair works for small to medium repairs and spot resurfacing, large-area resurfacing projects are better suited to our Bondo Concrete Resurfacer product, which is specifically formulated for thin overlay applications across entire slabs.

The Advanced Concrete Repair formula is optimized for filling voids, cracks, and damaged sections where structural repair is needed. For cosmetic renewal of worn but structurally sound concrete, our self-leveling resurfacer provides more economical coverage and a smoother final finish.

The cured compound is water-resistant and will not dissolve or wash out when exposed to rain, snow, or standing water. However, like all concrete products, it remains slightly porous and is not considered waterproof in the sense of forming a moisture barrier.

For applications requiring true waterproofing — such as below-grade foundations or water features — apply a concrete sealer or waterproofing membrane over the cured repair. The compound’s porosity allows sealers and waterproofers to penetrate and bond effectively, providing complete moisture protection when needed.

When properly applied to a clean, prepared surface, Bondo for concrete repairs are permanent and should last as long as the surrounding concrete substrate. Our formula is engineered to expand and contract at the same rate as natural concrete, preventing the differential movement that causes traditional patches to fail.

In real-world testing and contractor feedback, properly executed repairs have maintained structural integrity for 10+ years in harsh northern climates with freeze-thaw cycling. The polymer-modified formula eliminates the shrinkage and cracking that typically require re-patching every few years with standard cement-only products.
