Performance specs & application details

Advanced Formula & Application Properties
The rage ultra body filler formula represents years of refinement in polyester resin chemistry. We’ve balanced three critical performance factors: spreadability during application, cure speed, and final sandability.
Our ultra-lightweight composition means you’ll apply less product while achieving better coverage across repair areas. The smooth consistency eliminates the dragging and pulling common with heavier fillers, letting you work panel contours with precision. Mix ratio remains standard at 2% hardener by volume—the same proportion you’re accustomed to with other specialty fillers in our lineup.

Surface Preparation & Compatibility
Substrate Requirements
Rage ultra body filler bonds permanently to properly prepared bare metal, galvanized steel, aluminum, SMC (sheet molded composite), and fiberglass surfaces. We do not recommend application over paint, rust, or any contaminated surface.
Clean repair areas thoroughly with wax and grease remover. Sand glossy surfaces with 80-grit paper to create mechanical tooth for adhesion. Aluminum requires special attention—scuff with 80-grit and wipe with metal conditioner immediately before application to prevent oxidation.
Sanding, Shaping & Finish Work
Once rage ultra body filler has cured for 10 minutes, test firmness by pressing your thumb into the repair. When it no longer leaves an impression, you’re ready to begin shaping. Start with 36-grit or 40-grit sandpaper on a sanding board to knock down high spots and establish contour.
Our formula sands with exceptional ease compared to standard body fillers. You’ll notice less clogging of sandpaper and faster material removal. Progress through 80-grit, then 120-grit to refine the surface. For ultra-smooth finishes, complete with 180-grit before applying primer.

Common Questions About Rage Ultra Body Filler
Wait approximately 10 minutes after application at 70°F room temperature. Test cure by pressing your thumb into the filler—when it no longer leaves an impression, you’re ready to sand. Warmer temperatures accelerate cure time to 8 minutes, while cooler temperatures may extend it to 12-15 minutes.
Begin shaping with 36-grit or 40-grit sandpaper on a sanding board, then progress through finer grits to achieve your desired finish smoothness.
No, we do not recommend applying body filler over paint, primer, or any coated surface. Rage ultra body filler requires direct contact with bare substrate for proper adhesion.
Sand or strip paint completely from repair areas before application. Clean with wax and grease remover, then scuff bare metal with 80-grit sandpaper to create mechanical tooth. Apply filler immediately after surface preparation for best bonding.
Apply Rage Ultra at maximum 1/4-inch thickness per coat. Thicker applications generate excessive heat during cure, which can cause cracking, shrinkage, or incomplete hardening in the filler’s core.
For deeper repairs, build up material in multiple thin layers. Apply the first coat, allow full cure, sand level, then add subsequent layers until you reach the desired contour. This layering approach produces stronger, more stable repairs.
Yes, rage ultra body filler bonds excellently to fiberglass and SMC (sheet molded composite) surfaces when properly prepared. Sand glossy fiberglass with 80-grit paper to remove gel coat shine and create tooth for adhesion.
For flexible plastics like bumper covers, we recommend our specialized plastic repair products instead. Standard body filler remains too rigid for flex panels and will crack under stress.
Mix cream hardener at 2% ratio by volume—approximately a golf-ball-size amount of hardener per softball-size amount of filler. Blend thoroughly until color becomes completely uniform with no red or white streaks visible.
Too little hardener produces soft, under-cured repairs that won’t sand properly. Too much hardener accelerates cure too quickly, reduces working time, and can make the filler brittle. Measure carefully for consistent results.
Yes, you can apply primer as soon as final sanding is complete. We actually recommend priming within 24 hours of sanding to prevent moisture absorption. Body filler is porous and should not be left exposed to weather or humidity.
Blow off all sanding dust with compressed air, wipe with a tack cloth, then apply two coats of quality primer-surfacer. This seals the repair and creates the ideal foundation for topcoat paint.
Rage ultra body filler cures faster (10 minutes vs. 15-20 minutes), spreads more smoothly due to its lighter weight, and sands more easily with less paper clogging. It also produces fewer pinholes, making it ideal for show-quality work.
Our standard Bondo formula remains an excellent choice for general repairs and home projects at a lower price point. Rage Ultra is designed for professionals and enthusiasts who prioritize speed and ultra-smooth finishing results.
